Congratulations to the Winners
of our Writing Contests

The WestBow Bookstore Advantage Publishing Package

Winner: Mary Henderson
for her manuscript, Break Free, describing her triumphant struggle to recover from debilitating chronic illness.

1st Runner Up:
Catherine Leggett for her manuscript, Payne & Misery, a cozy mystery involving a woman with a little too much time on her hands and a neighbor in big trouble. As you can imagine, what follows is big trouble for everyone
involved.

2nd Runner Up: Laura Krokos for her manuscript, Beholding Him, Becoming Missional. The story behind her story is that there is hope for anyone with a heartbeat to write, no matter what their past experience.

The First Annual Beverly Bush Smith Aspiring Writer Award

Winner: Samantha Evans for her manuscript, Love Letters to Miscarried Moms. As with most writing that inspires, thisbook comes from Samantha’s own story of pain and empty arms. Finally she and her husband conceived--and a month later miscarried. Samantha was traumatized, hanging onto her faith to get her through. Then God asked her to write about her experience to comfort other women in the same sad situation, which she did, with gentleness, humor, and “I’ve-beenthere” love.

1st Runner Up:
Justin Hopson
for his manuscript, Breaking the Blue Wall. His personal story tells about a young New Jersey state trooper who is thrilled to be helping people when he finds himself surrounded by state police corruption. Determined to do what’s right, despite the odds, he took on the establishment alone--except for God--and finally won. This riveting book details his struggles, setbacks, and final validation.

2nd Runner Up: Muriel Gladney for her manuscript, Hate Has Weight, revealing that, when she finally turned 16, a court granted her freedom from her mother’s cruelty. What it could not free her from was her own tortured memories. Finally, readers learn, Christ gave her the strength to forgive her mother and go and grow beyond the past.

Give to a Fellow Writer

The generosity of Cecil B. Murphy provided ten Christian writers with full scholarships to attend our 2010 conference. The OCCWF also funded nine partial scholarships, primarily to students and volunteers. With your generous donation, the OCCWF can fund more writers at all ages and stages to attend the 2011 conference and other events as they arise. If you would like to donate funds to help a fellow Christian writer, click on the Donate button below. On behalf of all scholarship recipients, thank you for your generosity.
